SINN Féin North Antrim MLA and Deputy Chair of the Enterprise Committee Daithí McKay has welcomed the announcement that Portrush is set to be unveiled as the venue for the Irish Open.
Mr McKay said: “This announcement will be a massive boost to tourism on the north coast and comes at a time when international interest in Irish golf is at a high due to the success of our sports stars.
“The Executive has given a commitment to promote golf and golf tourism and the work of all stakeholders to present the north coast as a location that can and should host International competitions is starting to pay off dividends. It is important that we now build upon this.
“This announcement will be a boost to those involved in tourism right across the north coast, not just in Portrush, and will be a huge boost to tourism. The most exciting prospect about this development is that we can clearly build on this and have the potential to secure larger events for the north coast.”
