‘Wobbly paving stones’ concern

CONCERN has been expressed over the state of the footpath on Main Street in Ballymoney.

Over the past few weeks a number of Ballymoney and Moyle Times readers have called into the office after tripping or falling as a result of walking on the ‘wobbly paving stones’.

One pensioner, who did not want to be named, said: “Look at the state of me. I’ve just tripped and fallen a clatter outside Gambles Shoe shop because of those wobbly paving stones.

“I’d really like to issue a complaint about them. It’s a good job I didn’t properly hurt myself. I’m only suffering from wet trousers and a little bit of embarassment.”

Another lady explained: “The pathway out on Main Street is terrible. Someone really is going to hurt themselves. The pathway out there has only just been done - I don’t understand why it’s got so bad.”

In response a DRD Roads Service spokeswoman said: “Sections of the footway on the west side of the street have already been relaid. It is now planned to lift and relay some areas on the East side (the area at the shoe shop mentioned). To avoid disruption to shoppers and traders, this will be undertaken over a few consecutive Sundays, commencing Sunday 24th February, weather conditions permitting.”
