Winter Wonderland £1 Appeal launched in Ballycastle

BALLYCASTLE Community Development Group and Teen Ballycastle announce the launch of their Winter Wonderland £1 Appeal.

The group are giving a presentation to local business and other community and charitable bodies in Thyme & Co at 7.30 pm on Thursday 15th November.

They want to raise awareness of this wonderful festive venture which will bring much needed Christmas spirit and joy into Ballycastle and surrounding towns.

A spokesperson said: “It is hoped that following the launch parents and children will be as excited as we are and that they will look forward to coming along and sharing this magical experience.

“BCDG plan to run a 3 day event in Brady’s old supermarket store on Castle Street in Ballycastle. It will run from Friday 21st – 23rd December between 1pm – 8pm. We will have a Narnia themed Winter Wonderland with the Snow Queen and some of the characters from the Narnia tales. Give them a wave as you pass through this beautiful landscape.

“From there we will go through to Santa’s Grotto and workshop and Santa’s little Helpers and Elves are very much looking forward to meeting all the kids young and not so young and finding out what they would like for Christmas; so we hope that you have all been good. The kids can take part in little workshops while they wait to see Santa.

“Our Christmas market will give everyone a chance to pick up those last minute presents. It will be an eye catching display of festive arts and crafts and I’m sure some little nibbles to warm us all up. Choirs and musicians from local schools will be providing music throughout the event; all aimed at getting us into the festive spirit for the celebration of Christmas.

“BCDG have planned to bring an ice rink as part of the activities but this very much depends on whether we can raise the funds in time or not. We appreciate that everyone is feeling the pinch these days but if everyone could just donate £1 it would make a difference.

“You can find our Christmas stocking in Thyme & Co and can make donations from Friday 16th November right up to the opening of our Winter Wonderland on the 21st December. We are also running a fund raising event in the Central Bar Ballycastle on Saturday 8th December – Winter Wonderland theme fancy dress is optional. We would love to see as many people as possible there to support this event.

“And if there are any people out there who could help us with materials, labour or sponsorship, please contact any member of the Group - names and contact numbers will be made available at Thyme & Co,” said the spokesperson.
