Tributes to local people by makers of Cup Cake movie
THE film production company which has been highly visible on the streets of Ballymoney in recent weeks as they shoot the movie 'Cup Cake' has paid tribute to the people of the town for being so accommodating.
And the especially want to thank all the local people who turned up to be movie 'extras'
Judy Cassidy, Production Manager with 'Wee Buns Ltd', says filming is due to end in the town this Friday, and they were impressed with the reception they received in the town and would love to come back.
'Cup Cake' is not a general cinema release film but is due to make its debut at Belfast Film Festival in March next year and will tour around film festivals before being screened on tv screens by the BBC.
But the people of the town gave a blockbuster of a welcome to the production teams and actors who did filming at Leslie Hill, Kelly's and Gault's in Church Street, The Barber Shop in High Street, Ballymoney Town Hall, St Patrick's Church and Tesco.
She said: "We are finishing up this Friday and we would like to say everybody in Ballymoney was very helpful and supportive of us. It has gone extremely well. We stayed on schedule and everything went to plan and that was primarily down to the help of local people.
"It may be because Ballymoney has never experienced a film being made but we had no problems getting extras and in fact it was the best set of extras we ever had. People came back on several occasions so we hope to have quite a few local faces heavily featured when the film is made."
'Cup Cake' is a film that centres around the life of a young man, known as PJ, who loses his parents and inherits a small bakery business.
He makes a promise to his mum and dad that he will carry on the business, but privately he is dreading the future because of his distinct lack of culinary skills.
To make matters worse, PJ owes money to two 'wide boys' in the area. They are prepared to forgo the debt provided he marries their sister, Kitty.
Things progress normally until a rather beautiful second girl arrives on the scene and promptly takes an interest in the business. Her catering skills are such that she helps PJ to winning two regional competitions which wins him a prize of 5000 and a way out of his debt problems to the two brothers.
However, the film takes further twists and turns and the outcome is best left until it is screened.
'Cup Cake' is written by Christine Murphy (Doctors), produced by Katy Jackson (Charlotte's Reed) and directed by Colin McIvor (Driven) with Cian de Buitlear (Man About Dog) as the project's director of photography.
'Cup Cake' was selected by Northern Ireland Screen as part of their Ultra Low Budget Fiction Fund. The film stars Adam Best (Holby City) as P.J.
The film also stars Ballycastle actress Michelle Fairley (Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows), Clive Russell (Jam And Jerusalem), Paddy Jenkins (Bel's Boys) Ian McElhinney (Single-Handed) and newcomer Kasia Koleczek as 'Gala', PJ's romantic interest.
