Tourism literature ‘must include all of Moyle’

BALLYCASTLE Sinn Féin councillor, Cara McShane, has slammed recent promotional literature given out to tourist providers, from the Causeway Coast and Glens Heritage Trust, which, she says, excludes the Glens.

Councillor McShane was contacted by a number of tourist providers in Moyle, who were asked to display the literature, and she said they were very angry at the exclusion of the Glens.

“Once again we see the demotion of the Glens because of a persistent emphasis on the Causeway only. Tourist promoters in places like Ballycastle and the Glens feel neglected even though they too are in an area of outstanding beauty. We need a tourism strategy that takes Moyle as a whole and promotes the entire area vigorously, after all it is all of Moyle’s ratepayers that are contributing to the Causeway Coast and Glens Heritage Trust. This bias towards just one part of our coast has to end.

“For that reason, the Council has now agreed to write to the Heritage Trust and ask them to pull this literature and issue something that reflects the whole Moyle area.

“We need to support all our tourist providers; it merely causes confusion to tourists if the promotional literature and badges don’t give a unified message. There are three Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Moyle and the literature needs to embrace this. Instead, currently we have mixed marketing messages and exasperated tourists providers. Promoters must show a bit of common sense and joined-up thinking.”
