‘The Call of the Running Tide’

RATHLIN Island Books is delighted to announce the publication of its latest title, ‘The Call of the Running Tide’ by renowned sailing and local history writer, Wallace Clark.

The launch event will take place on Rathlin Island, Co Antrim at 1.30pm on Saturday 7th July 2012.

The Call of the Running Tide spans the full range of Wallace Clark’s sailing endeavours, from boyhood adventures on local dams and rivers to his last trip, a voyage in the Adriatic in 2010 when the author was in his eighty-fourth year.

It tells of visits to creeks, islets, secret harbours and landfalls on shores near and fAR. The book is packed with sailing tips and anecdotes from Cape Horn to Norway, the Azores to the Aegean.

Wallace Clark (1926-2011), author of Sailing Round Ireland, Rathlin. Its Island Story, Sailing Round Russia, and Donegal Islands - among others - died before he could complete this, his last book.

Wallace had been working with book editor Tara Mackie before his death, and Tara continued work on the book with Wallace’s son Bruce of The Economist, and formerly of the Financial Times and The Times.

The book was completed with help from the author’s widow June as well as his brother Henry (a former MP for North Antrim who died in March 2012) and sister Jill. The cover illustration is by the author’s grandson Finnian, a professional artist.

Drawing widely on contributions from Wallace’s family, friends and crewmates, The Call of the Running Tide remembers this charismatic and ground-breaking author and sailor.

The book will be available from www.rathlinislandbooks.com from 8th July.
