Tesco Ballycastle - have your say!

TESCO has recently submitted a planning application to build a supermarket on the Leyland Road, Ballycastle, for a 15,000 sq ft store, around half the size of the store in Ballymoney.

The proposal includes free parking for 133 cars and the opportunity for housing to be included on the site.

As part of its extensive consultation process, Tesco is giving every household in the Moyle council area an opportunity to give their views on the scheme.

During the next couple of weeks, all homes will receive an information leaflet containing details of the proposed store, which will create around 110 new jobs.

It also contains further information about Tesco and the feedback to date from the extensive consultation programme already carried out.

A short detachable questionnaire is also included in the leaflet which can be filled in and returned FREEPOST to Tesco. Every form that is received back by June 25 will be entered into a draw and one person will win a 100 Tesco giftcard.

A new easy-to-use website – www.tescoballycastle.co.uk has also been launched to provide the local community with more details about the exciting Leyland Road scheme, and allows people to share their views and register their support online.

Colin Hampsey, from Tesco said, "We were very encouraged by the response of those who attended the public exhibition in January. 96% of those who filled in a comment card were in favour of the proposed store and recognised the need for a new, modern supermarket with improved choice for people living in the area.

"Residents also welcomed the additional job opportunities that the construction and opening of this store will bring, resulting in a much needed boost to the local economy.

"We have worked very hard to consult as many people as possible and appreciate the time taken by those who have participated. I would encourage everyone to take a few minutes to read this leaflet and fill in the response form and return it to us with their views as we are keen to give local people the opportunity to have their say. We are also grateful for all the feedback from the elected representatives and will be in regular contact with them during the planning process," he concluded.
