Teenager arrested in firework incident
AN 18-year-old man has been arrested in relation to an incident involving a firework at a house in Robinson Avenue, Ballymoney, in the early hours of Saturday morning.
According to police, a firework was put through the letter box of the house and damged was caused.
The teenager, a locl, was arrested and enquiries continuing.
And the issue has prompted a warning from local Commander, David Wallace, who stressed that th epolice would exercise their powers to carry out stop and searches on those they suspected of carrying fireworks.
“We will not be treating incidents as a Halloween prank. If we have evidence we will report the matter to the Prosecution Service,” Chief Inspector Wallace said.
He said people needed to be reminded of the fact that fireworks are explosives and that they could cause serious problems.
He said they were anxious to target those who sold fireworks illegally and urged members of the public to ring directly to them via the telephone line 0800 555 111.
“We have had a number of incidents in Ballymoney and someone is making these items available. Those are the people we want to get to,” Chief Inspector Wallace added.
