Success for NRC students at Royal TV Society awards

BALLYMONEY campus NOrthern Regional College students have scooped top awards in the prestigious Royal Television society Awards held at the weekend in Dublin.

The Ballymoney and Moyle Times recently reported how local student Nicola Clyde had been shortlisted for her fiction programme while Dunloy NRC graduate Rosie McNamee was also shortlisted, this time in the factual programme making category.

The students and college won an award in one category and came runner-up in another.

“We are the first school in Northern Ireland to have won a Royal Television Society Award,” said lecturer Stephen Price.

“So the school now has a Royal Television Society Award for Factual programme-making. The student winner was Rosie McNamee, who is in her first year of university in London.

“The runners up, in the Fiction programme category, were Jamie Graham, Nicola Clyde and Mark McAuley, who are currently BTEC TV & Film second years.

“The overall standard of finalists was very high. The awards were presented in RTE in Dublin. Rosie (and the school) now go through to an all-UK final in the Barbican in London in May.”

On behalf of the Ballymoney campus, Stephen Price added: “This highlights the professional standards that NRC students attain, allowing them to progress on to work in the media industry.”
