North Antrim MLA calls for action on DVLA jobs

NORTH Antrim TUV MLA Jim Allister has called for action from the Secretary of State to safeguard Coleraine DVLA jobs.

Of the 200-300 jobs, many workers come from the Ballymoney and Ballycastle areas.

Mr Allsier said: “The threat to DVLA jobs at Coleraine is severe. If the Secretary of State has the interests of Northern Ireland at heart then she will be intervening on our behalf in this Westminster decision. We cannot afford to lose another 200-300 jobs.

“Alex Atwood, I believe, has been doing his best on this matter. I trust at his vital meeting on 5 March with Stephen Hammond we will see some recognition of the imperative to keep the DVLA office in Coleraine, particularly since upgrade of its computer system would put it in a position to complement and integrate with the Swansea operation while keeping the jobs in Northern Ireland.”
