Meningitis Research Foundation thank James

THE Meningitis Research Foundation have thanked their member James McCloy from Rasharkin for his participation in the 2012 BUPA Great North Run event.

James ran the half marathon in aid of Meningitis Research Foundation and in memory of his nephew Christopher McKee who sadly died from the disease in 2011.

Christopher was 21-years-old. James, with the support of his family and friends, managed to raise a magnificent £3,700.

Meningitis Research Foundation Ireland Manager Diane McConnell commented: “Special thanks to James and all those who kindly sponsored him. It is only through the generosity and the hard work of the public that the Foundation is able to fund research, raise awareness and support those who have already been affected by meningitis and septicaemia.”

There are around 3,600 cases of meningitis and septicaemia – the blood poisoning form of the disease, every year in the UK and Ireland. Sadly around one in 10 who get meningitis and septicaemia will die.

James is already back in training for this year’s BUPA Great North Run which takes place on Sunday 15th September.

“We wish James every success for his 2013 run and are delighted he is running in aid of Meningitis Research Foundation again,” said a spokesperson for the charity.
