McLaughlin wishes St Brigid’s well

CLOUGHMILLS Sinn Féin councillor Cathal McLaughlin has wished the St Brigid’s GAA Club the ‘best of luck’ in the county final this weekend.

The north Antrim men face St Paul’s from Belfast in this weekend’s Antrim Intermediate hurling Championship final and they will be looking forward to their chance at County glory.

The Sinn Féin councillor said: “I would like to wish St Brigid’s the best of luck on Saturday, in their Championship final. Recent years have seen the ‘the Biddies’ progressing in to top flight hurling with successive county finals, and after losing last year’s final by a small margin this final is another reward for the hard work of club in the last year.”

Cllr McLaughlin said that he has been a club member since the formation of the club, who are celebrating their 20th year in Antrim hurling this year, and winning this championship would be a tremendous achievement for the years of hard work the players and mentors have put in.

He added: “We are all looking forward to an exciting final. Having beaten St Paul’s twice in the league this season will have no reflection on the outcome of this game. I’ve no doubt this will be a tough game, but beating the championship favourites in the semi-final has led me to believe St Brigid’s can bring the Intermediate Championship home to Cloughmills for the first time in the clubs history. Adh mór oraibh uilig!”
