Free admission for 'Cup Cake' film
LOCAL people will be able to view the recent film 'Cup Cake' made in Ballymoney at the Town Hall FREE of charge.
John Leslie, the Production Designer and Location Manager of ‘Wee Buns Limited’ says he hopes it will be accepted as a goodwill gesture when the film goes on release in the Spring of next year at Belfast Film Festival before touring around film festivals in the province.
Mr. Leslie, originally from Leslie Hill Farm in the town, says he was not surprised by the reception he and his co-workers received in Ballymoney.
“I was bowled over by locals who showed tremendous enthusiasm and kindness. It helped put a spring in everyone’s step,” he told the Times.
The film, a romantic comedy, used several local outlets including Gaults Drapers, Kelly’s, The Barber Shop, Tescos and St. Patrick’s Parish Church.
The crew also secured facilities at The Manor Hotel and Mr. Leslie has extended his thanks to Derek Morrison of the Manor for his help and assistance. He has also thanked staff and students at the Northern Regional College in Ballymoney describing them as “absolutely brilliant” and to the extras who blended in perfectly.
The film will eventually be televised by the BBC sometime in 2011 and Mr. Leslie believes it will be a big success.
The screening in the Town Hall will most likely be over two nights and while admission is free, Mr. Leslie is hoping that people may donate to charities promoted by local people.
“We have yet to identify where any donations will go, but we will be working closely with local people in worthwhile projects,” he said.
