Four arrested at Fair

Four arrests were made during this year’s Aul Lammas Fair held at Ballycastle last week, police have confirmed.

One man aged 31 years old was arrested for disorderly behaviour at the Diamond area, Ballycastle shortly before 1.30am on Tuesday 28th August.

He was subsequently released on police bail pending further enquiries.

A 37-year-old male was arrested for suspected possession and sale of counterfeit goods at the Leyland Road, Ballycastle area at around 2:25pm on Monday 27th August.

A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of selling counterfeit goods at the Glentaisie Drive, Ballycastle areashortly before 4pm on Monday 27th August.

Both men were released on police bail pending further enquiries.

A 34-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of trading counterfeit goods at the Quay Road, Ballycastle area at around 6:35pm on Monday 27th August.

He was later released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Speaking after the event, Moyle Area Commander Chief Inspector Brenda Cairns said: “As one of the main dates in the Moyle district calendar, the Aul Lammas Fair brings an increased footfall of people into the Ballycastle area. Police worked closely with the event organisers to ensure the smooth running of the event.

“Three persons were arrested during the proactive policing operation in relation to the sale of suspected counterfeit goods , and hopefully this highlights the importance of proper trading standards being adhered to at all times.”
