Egg throwing is urban myth say police

Police have described a warning over eggs being thrown at vehicles in Ballycastle as an ‘urban myth’.

The comment was made after the Times contact the local PSNI over a post on the website Ballycastle Stuff stating: ‘If you are driving at night and eggs are thrown at your windscreen, do not stop to check the car, do not operate the wiper and do not spray any water, because eggs mixed with water become milky and block your vision up to 92.5% and you are forced to stop beside the road and become a victim of these criminals. This is a new technique used by gangs, so please inform your friends and relatives.’

In response a police spokesperson said: “This is an urban myth which has been widely circulated. Police believe there is no factual basis for this myth however would urge anyone who observes anything suspicious or untoward or has any general concerns to contact them on 0845 600 8000.”
