DUP visit new police station

The DUP’s North Antrim MP Ian Paisley Jnr accompanied by MLA Mervyn Storey and David McIlveen have paid a visit to the new police station in Balllymoney.

They were given a guided tour of the new building by Chief Inspector Brenda Cairns, Area Commander for Ballymoney, Chief Superintendent Chris Noble PSNI Commander for H District and Inspector David Anderson.

Following the visit Mervyn Storey said: “We were delighted to see at first hand the new station.

“To say that Ballymoney was in need of a new police station would have been the understatement of the centaury.

“Indeed lobbying for the new station was one of the first tasks I undertook when first elected in 2001. I, along with Ian Paisley senior and Ian Jnr, never missed an opportunity to raise the need for a new station. We are glad that we have now seen the fruit of the labour.

“The new station is a huge improvement and will ensure that the public and the police officers have a station fit for purpose and something to be proud off, instead of what we had previously, an old unfit building.

“While we appreciate buildings do not protect citizens, it was imperative for the continuation of policing in the Borough of Ballymoney that this new station was built.

“If that had not been the case I have no doubt that we would have seen all police operations for Ballymoney based in Coleraine.

“We also took the opportunity to discuss a variety of other issues regarding policing, relating to Ballymoney such as response, opening times, crime rates, parades and staffing of community neighbourhood policing.

“We intend to have follow up meetings with the police to discuss these and other matters in the coming weeks and months.”
