Cross-border networking at Corrymeela

CROSS-border networking was in full swing on February 8/9 at Corrymeela in Ballycastle.

Participants on the North East PEACE III Cross Border Networking, Good Practice and Engagement Project gathered together from across the North East area to network at a two day residential with their cross border partners from Monaghan, Donegal and Louth.

The groups who took part over the weekend were partnered together based on their common interests and backgrounds. Limavady Historical Society teamed up with Clogher Historical Society; Ballycastle Community Association along with Rathlin Community Development Association partnered Inishowen Community Association.

Focus on Family, Coleraine, worked with a group of women from the Louth border area; Members of the Coleraine UDR and Former Border Security, Donegal, shared their joint experiences.

Community Focus Learning from Portglenone also took part although their partner group was unable to attend but they enjoyed the experience of working with and getting to know all the members of the other groups.

The project which is delivered by Co-operation Ireland is funded under the European Union’s PEACE III Programme which is managed on behalf of the Special EU Programmes Body by the North East PEACE III Partnership.

These groups along with 20 others have been meeting since October, building relationships and discovering commonalities, as well as sharing best practice and developing strong networks for continued linkages.

By the end of the project, the participants will have engaged on a number of facilitated networking and sharing sessions and will have contributed to the creation of a DVD that will provide guidance on how to set up projects and partnerships such as this one.

The project is due to complete in September 2013, where a showcase will be held to celebrate the project’s achievements.
