Council members pay tribute to George Peden

BALLYMONEY councillors have expressed their great sadness over the death of local man George Peden.

Owner of Ballyboyland Quarry, Tummock Road, Mr Peden of Semicock Road, passed away suddenly at Causeway Hospital last Monday (September 3).

Speaking during a recent Council meeting, Cllr Robert Halliday raised the issue stating that his death was a ‘devastating blow to the local community’ .

He added that Mr Peden had ‘done a lot of work for the Council over the years’.

Cllr Mervyn Storey concurred with Cllr Halliday’s sentiments explaining that Mr Peden made a ‘valuable contribution to the lives of people in the town and within the quarry industry throughout the province.’

Alderman Bill Kennedy said he was ‘sad to hear the news’.

And the Mayor, Cllr Evelyne Robinson expressed her sorrow adding: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families. Mr Peden will be remembered with great fondness.”

* A service of thanksgiving was held in the First Ballymoney Presbyterian Church last Wednesday.
