Could Ballycastle be a Winter Wonderland this Christmas?

BALLYCASTLE could be transformed into a glittering Winter Wonderland this Christmas thanks to the vision of a new community group.

The enthusiastic members of the newly formed Ballycastle Community Group are planning to create a festive fun area including an ice-skating rink and Christmas market, inspired by the traditional Christmas markets in Germany.

A member of the fundraising events have been planned to fund the Winter Wonderland project including a Pamper Day which has been organised by one volunteer Louise Brolly for this Saturday (October 20th).

“I lived in Germany for a while and the Christmas markets are a big thing there,” Louise told the Ballymoney Times.

“Also loads of people travel to the Continental markets in Glasgow and Belfast every year at Christmas.

“I just thought that something like a Winter Wonderland with an ice rink and local arts and crafts stalls at Christmas would be a lovely thing for Ballycastle.

“I would like to be able to take my own kids to enjoy something like that in our own town.

“The Ballycastle Community Group ran some fundraising events during the summer and the idea of a Winter Wonderland just came as a result of general chit-chat.

“To get an ice-skating rink would cost £5,000 so that’s why we are fundraising with this Pamper Day.”

The Pamper Day will be held from 1 - 5pm in Portnagree House (the new building in the ferry terminal car park) in Ballycastle this Saturday, October 20th.

There will be head and foot massages on offer, make-up, hairdressing, hair ‘put-ups’, nail art, face painting for the children and much more.

“I’ve been amazed at how many people have come forward to offer help and donations - especially donating their time,” said Louise.

“A number of business owners have also come forward to say that they will run raffles on Saturday and the money from that will come to the Community Group.

“It’s fantastic that people want to get involved in the town. It’s true community spirit,” added Louise.

Admission to the Pamper Day is £5 for adults and £2.50 for children. Check out Ballycastle Community Group on Facebook for further details.
