Local success at GB Queen’s Awards

GIRLS’ Brigade Northern Ireland held their annual Queen’s Award Presentation Ceremony recently in Lagan Valley Island, Lisburn.

Among the 54 girls, receiving the award from GBNI Patron Lynda Bryans were Naomi Bleakly, Kathryn Dorrans, Tiffany Gage, Laura Hunter, and Nicola McCollum, all from Ballymoney Reformed Presbyterian; Hannah Kirkpatrick and Rachel McCurdy from Drumreagh Presbyterian.

Ellen McKinney from Roseyards Presbyterian, Alanna Millar St James’s Presbyterian and Claire Kennedy from Ballymoney Reformed Presbyterian also received the award but were unable to attend the ceremony.

Over a period of two years, the girls completed a period of voluntary work, a written project or piece of creative work, helped out in their local GB company, organised gift parcels for the homeless at Christmas, and attended an interview with GBNI officials. The Queen’s award is the highest award attainable in Girls’ Brigade, run to agreed international standards in GB companies all over the world.
