Leaney and St Brigid’s Primary Schools launched an exciting joint maths project this week.

This cross-community project, Programme for Parents Supporting maths at Home (PPSMH) is a new venture for both schools, funded through the Extended Schools programme.

Through the project children will have access to a range of fun maths activities suing stimulating new resources.

These ‘take home’ activities will provide parents with the opportunity to reinforce the learning taking place in the classroom.

“Some of our parents have told us how much maths teaching has changed since they were at school,” explained Leaney Maths co-ordinator Lee-Anne Campbell. So we decided to put together some packs to help our parents get to grips with the latest teaching ideas. And, of course, it will also benefit our children’s learning.”

The Maths co-ordinators at both schools have worked together to design the packs from scratch and put them together, along with a range of ideas to keep parents and children busy and excited about learning Maths.

“We are really pleased to be part of this programme with Leaney,” said St Brigid’s Maths co-ordinator Leona Campbell.

“It’s a great opportunity for all our children.

“The two schools have a history of collaboration and we are pleased to carry that on with this latest project.”
