Councillor Joan Baird of the UUP has congratulated Stephen Gallagher of Shadetreesport and Ballycastle cyclist John Madden

on their part in attracting the famous Giro d’Italia cycling event to the Causeway Coast and Glens.

Councillor Baird said “This is a great achievement for this area and a golden opportunity for businesses to capitalise on the event and to market our beautiful landscape on the world stage.”

Cllr Baird went on to thank John Madden for his part in promoting cycling in the Moyle area: “John is a renowned athlete himself, having been Captain of the Triathlon Irish Team at European and World Championships and holder of several cycling records.

“Over the last four years John has held the Ulster Veterans Championship on 10 and 25 Mile races.

“The Giro coming to Moyle will be a great inspiration to our residents and I am certain many will take up cycling as a fitness and

leisure activity as a result.”
