Army bomb experts at a scene on the Ballymena Road in Ballymoney early this morning after a device was discovered. It is beleived to be a pipe bomb.PICTURE MARK JAMIESON.

 

The Ballymena Road in Ballymoney has now re-opened following a report of a suspicious object found close to residential premises in the area.

Army Technical Officers have finished at the scene and a controlled explosion has been carried out on a viable device. The object has been taken away or further forensic examinations.

It is believed that the object may have been a pipe bomb.

Residents who had been evacuated during the incident have now been allowed to return to their homes.

Police would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information to contact them on the non-emergency number 101.
