Local MLA to open Road Safety exhibition

North Antrim MLA Mervyn Storey will officially declare open the exhibition in Ballymoney Town Hall which marks the 50th anniversary of the local

Road Safety committee. And according to one of the organisers it is a fitting tribute to Mr Storey who as a schoolboy at Ballymoney High, took it upon himself to become a member of the committee.

Mr Knox said: “Down through the years Mervyn Storey has displayed a keen interest in road safety matters and, in particular, the work of our committee. He has greatly assisted us with many of our projects and initiatives and has always lobbied for us in his role as a politician .”

Mr Storey said he was honoured to have been asked and praised the Ballymoney committee for their efforts in keeping safety uppermost in the minds of road users and felt confident it would be a success. He said: “Ballymoney has one of the hardest working committees in Northern Ireland and has achieved through the efforts of officials and members. Their hard work in helping secure the dualling of the A26 was significant in that it helped persuade the Government to invest millions into making the road a safer place.

“I congratulate the committee on celebrating 50 years and know that the hard work and enthusiasm will continue well into the future.”

The exhibition which will document much of the history of the committee will have input from the PSNI as well as local historian Peter Thompson.

It begins on Monday, December 5 and runs for three days.
