JDLC closures for ‘economic reasons’

THE Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre is to be closed on public and bank holidays - for economic reasons.

During a recent Leisure and Amenities Committee meeting, members agreed to the proposal to shut the doors on dates during Easter, the Royal Wedding, July, Christmas and New Year.

The report explained: ‘For economic reasons it is recommended the Leisure Centre close on the following public/bank holidays during 2011/12.

‘The closed dates are: Sunday 24th April 2011 - Easter Sunday, Monday 25th April 2011 - Easter Monday, Friday 29th April 2011 - Royal Wedding, Tuesday 12th July 2011, Wednesday 13th July 2011, Saturday 24th December 2011 - Christmas Eve, Sunday 25th December 2011 - Christmas Day, Monday 26th December 2011 - Boxing Day, Sunday 1st January 2012 - New Years Day and Monday 2nd January 2012.

‘Staff are to be commended for agreeing to take leave on 24th April, 24th December and 2nd January to facilitate the closure.’

It was proposed by Cllr Evelyne Robinson, seconded by Cllr Ian Stevenson that Council close the Leisure Centre on the stated public/bank holidays during 2011/12.

Cllr Robinson thanked the staff of the Leisure Centre for making a sacrifice to use their annual leave at this time. Cllr Stevenson agreed with the councillor’s sentiments.
