After police found a 23-year-old man sleeping in the bathroom of a vacant house they discovered he was in possession of a class C drug.

Aaron Hughes, of no fixed abode, appeared last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court by way of videolink from Maghaberry prison.

He admitted unlawful possession on February 23 this year of a class C drug, Diazepam.

He was fined £200 and an immediate warrant was issued. He was also ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that Hughes had been arrested in relation to another matter and he was discovered in possession of a small amount of Diazepam.

A solicitor for the defendant said the other matter was a burglary for which he received a three month sentence at the court the previous week.

He explained that Hughes had been homeless and had been found sleeping in a bath in unoccupied premises.

It was his first drugs offence and he admitted it from the outset.
