‘Fang-tastic’ Hallowe’en happening in Causeway Coast & Glens

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has revealed a shockingly good sequence of events to guarantee Halloween goes off with a bang.

This year promises a fireworks extravaganza with displays confirmed in Ballycastle, Ballymoney, Coleraine and Limavady alongside an array of ‘spooktacular’ goings on.

The Tides Restaurant, Portrush is once again sponsoring the Halloween festivities across the area.

Wherever you are, you won’t be far from a fancy dress competition, outdoor entertainment, creepy characters, live concerts, fire juggling, parade or fireworks show.

Welcoming the line-up of exciting events, the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Alderman Maura Hickey said: “Halloween is a fantastic time to bring the community together to enjoy the packed programme that the council has put together. With events in Coleraine, Ballymoney, Ballycastle and Limavady, everyone can be involved. We hope that as many people as possible take part and enjoy what is on offer.”

In Limavady on Friday 28th the programme gets underway from 6.15pm with a DJ, spooky music, and a fancy dress competition at Roe Mill Road Recreation Grounds. The impressive fireworks begins at 7pm. On Saturday 29th from 2pm-4pm don’t miss the children’s party at Drumceatt Square with fancy dress, decorate your own cupcake, spot prizes (sponsored by Roe Valley Chamber of Commerce), DJ and creepy creatures. There will also be a Scary Arts Club for children aged 5 - 12 on Saturday 29th & Monday 31st from 10am-1pm at Roe Valley Arts & Cultural Centre.

The Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre in Ballymoney is the venue for a live outdoor concert on Friday 28th from 6.30pm. The evening will feature local band Bone Idol, DJ, fancy dress competition, fire poi, creepy characters. A spectacular fireworks display will get underway at 8.15pm. To end the night there is a Halloween Pool Disco at 8.30pm for ages 5 - 14, at a cost of £3.50 per person. Under 8s must be accompanied by an adult. If you’re brave enough, why not participate in the Myths & Legends Walk on Wednesday 26th October at 7.30 pm. The walk follows a route from the Town Clock to the Old Graveyard and costs £1 per person. On Saturday 29th come along between 11am & 4pm to the Castlecroft Halloween Party. Or you can bring your own little monsters to the Kids Monster Movie as Hotel Transylvania 2 is on at Ballymoney Town Hall on Monday 31st at 11am. Admission is £1.

In Coleraine, Rugby Avenue Playing Fields are the place to be on Saturday 29th from 6.30pm. There will be a DJ, spooky characters, fire poi, fancy dress competition, live outdoor concert with Bandoliers and a fireworks extravaganza at 8.30pm. Once again the very popular fun fair returns from 3pm -9.30pm. Also on Saturday, visit the Causeway Speciality Food & Craft Halloween Market in The Diamond from 9am – 4pm. There will be 40 stalls to browse, all packed with tasty speciality foods and hand-crafted goods.

Over in Ballycastle, the popular Halloween Parade and Fireworks display takes place on Monday 31st. Participants should meet at Dalriada Lower Car Park at 7pm for judging of the fancy dress competition. The parade, consisting of floats, scary characters, fire poi and stilt-walkers departs at 7.15pm. It will make its way through the town centre to the seafront where a DJ and scary characters will entertain the waiting crowd before the fireworks display at 8pm.

Over in the Glens, the Ghosts in the Glens Storytelling Festival, featuring Colum Sands, runs from October 27th – October 30th. This year the community storytelling festival features not so scary stories for under 8’s to spooky stories for the brave!
