Ballycastle and District Probus Club welcomed Jerome Mullan, the Honorary Consul for the Republic of Poland, as the speaker at their weekly meeting.

The Probus Club President, Michael Page, expressed members’ appreciation that the Consul, and his wife Margaret, had travelled from their home in Warrenpoint to acquaint those present with the demands of his position .

Jerome Mullan stressed that, with the popularity of Northern Ireland as a residence for many Polish nationals, it was imperative that comprehensive support was available for them in their adoptive country. Jerome has taken a particular interest in making them welcome and feels strongly that the business community should give leadership in this. He outlined how he came to be asked in 2008 to hold the position of Honorary Consul.

Jerome proved to be a man of very many interests including directorship of the Clanrye Group supporting disabled adults, an active member of Newry Chamber of Commerce and Trade and a founder of the Rostrevor vintage car show.

The Probus Club continues to thrive with a number of new members joining already this year. Retired and semi-retired men are welcome to join the club which meets weekly in Ballycastle Golf Club premises.
