The Headmaster of Dunluce School congratulated all the pupils, parents and staff who had worked together to achieve the recent GCSE results in the school.
Dr Brian Haugh said that, he was delighted with the achievement of the school’s Year 12 pupils this year. “Their results reflect a high degree of hard work and commitment on the part of all concerned – pupils, parents and teachers but it has been worth it.”
Dr Haugh went on to say that 100% of the year group achieved five or more passes with 95% gaining the mid grade passes or higher. He added 57% of all grades were the higher grades A*-C. “The pupils fully deserve their success because they worked hard, heeded the advice of their teachers and had the confidence and commitment to see things through to the end. Some of them far exceeded their expectations and now realise that with determination, commitment and hard work they can achieve what was perhaps once thought impossible. I want to congratulate all of them on their achievements and also acknowledge the zeal, guidance and dedication of their teachers and the co-operation and support of their parents who have helped them achieve success.
“In particular, I would like to mention Victoria Kennedy, Keiran Logan, Courtney Currie, Adam Heaney, Robert Getty, Janine Mitchell, Rebecca Elliott, Zoe Dunbar, Demi Cochrane, Suzanne Logan, Katherine McClean, Jessica McCracken, Jake Wilson, Grant Crawford, Sam Magilton, Pamela Sinclair, Megan Watton, Kurtis Ashcroft, Peter Rowland, Zara Leslie, Louise Lyons, Jonathan Farley, Iain McCulloch, Nathan Cassidy, Adam Walker, Natalie Hemming, Laura Caskey, Jamie-Lee Douglas, Cezary Milczarek, Alexandra Scott, Kathryn Scott, Victoria McFarlane, all of whom passed 5-8 GCSE’s within the A*-C grade category.”
He also paid tribute to those pupils with special educational needs, some of whom had attained 4-7 passes in all subjects entered, some of which were at the higher level. “Some of these pupils have exceeded even their own expectations but have proved that the most important ingredient in achieving success is hard work. They deserve their success and I wish them well for the future,” he said.
Dr Haugh stressed the importance of developing good relationships between staff, pupils and parents in the school. He said that maintaining an ethos of hard work and good discipline with a special emphasis on high quality teaching and learning with the right resources was the reason for the school’s on-going success and high intake year upon year.
