Duck Dive launches with a splash

It's the annual madness that is the Portstewart Duck Dive and, as ever, all monies raised go the RNLI.

Held on St Patrick’s Day it’s as big a tradition in the seaside town as ice cream on the Prom and this year heralds a new beginning for the event.

Originally started over 30 years ago by the late Len Forbes and George McCann a new committee is on board and with new faces come new ideas and already there’s a twelve month plan in place to make it bigger and better.

Commenting on the previous years a spokesman said: “The efforts of the previous committees have been amazing. They’ve raised many thousands of pounds for our lifeboat and of course, none of it would have been possible without the generosity of the Portstewart traders who donate to the annual raffle.”

The new committee are also delighted to again have Shenanigans as the main sponsor and the venue is laying on music and Irish stew for the Awards Ceremony which will take place immediately after the Duck Dive. Another feature this year will be a mobile number that members of the public can text to make a donation and this number will be extensively advertised on social media and in the local press.

Anyone wishing to take up the challenge of the Duck Dive is invited to wear fancy dress to add to the fun and prizes will be awarded accordingly. Similarly all participants will be given a special Duck Dive Certificate and the Official Sponsorship Forms are available now in Shenanigans, Portstewart Post Office, The Anchor Complex, The Top House, Sheila’s Confectionery and the New York Inn.
