That’s the message from Causeway Coast and Glens Policing Partnership ahead of Valentine’s Day.

With this in mind, the PCSP joined forces with the PSNI and NIFRS to drive home the road safety message at an event in Coleraine town centre.

Two road traffic collision demonstrations were played out, with fire fighters using cutting equipment to show what happens in a real life crash scenario.

The events also featured the PCSP’s car crash simulator. It’s hoped the initiative will encourage better driving and a safer approach to getting behind the wheel.

PCSP Chairman, Alderman William King, said: “With schools preparing for their mid-term holidays, the PCSP and the emergency services took the opportunity to emphasise the need for safety on the roads at all times. The crash simulator provides a timely reminder of the potential consequences which can result from poor decisions.

“The accident demonstrations are a powerful way to share the road safety message, and I would like to thank all those from the PSNI and the NIFRS who were involved. I hope by working together we can make the roads a safer place. All drivers should remember to slow down, never use a mobile phone behind the wheel, wear their seatbelt and never, ever drink and drive.”
