With just 50 days to go until the UK’s annual get-together for neighbours, The Big Lunch is urging everyone across the North Coast to get involved in this year’s event on Sunday 1 June.
The Big Lunch is a very simple idea from the Eden Project. The aim of the Lottery-funded event, which is now in its sixth year, is to get as many of the 63 million people in the UK as possible to have lunch with their neighbours once a year.
David Quinney Mee, Community Development Worker at Rathlin Development & Community Association, held a Big Lunch as part of the Maritime Festival on Rathlin Island last year and is urging others in the area to get involved.
David says: “I would encourage anyone to order a free pack and try The Big Lunch with your neighbours or local group. It’s a lot of fun and doesn’t need to be done on a grand scale. Rathlin has been having Big Lunches since 2011 and it now forms a special part of the Maritime festival which looks set to be even better than last year’s success.
“We are looking forward to welcoming folk to join the residents of Rathlin for food and friendship at our Big Lunch on Sunday June 1st, so save the date.”
Free packs can be requested online, they include posters, invitations, an inspiration booklet and other materials to help organise your Big Lunch.
