BENVARDIN Animal Rescue Kennels (Bark) was set up last August, after the USPCA vacated the former Safari Park site.

Ten months on, and BARK is now a fully registered charity.

Having re-homed over 300 dogs in that time, the rescue centre is going from strength to strength.

Louise Neill, Shelter Manager, and her team of volunteers, work hard to ensure that dogs entering the kennels are properly looked after.

All dogs are fully vaccinated before leaving, kennel coughed, de flead and wormed.

New owners must also purchase a Council dog licence before re-homing a dog.

BARK work in partnership with Jollye’s, Pets at Home and Coleraine Pet Shop and new owners will be given discount vouchers from the stores to treat their new addition.

As well as arranging home visits to check prospective owners are suitable, BARK also has facilities for owners to try the suitability of a dog with existing pets. They encourage the whole family to spend time with the dog before making the big decision to adopt it.

The re-homing rate at BARK is exceptionally high, thanks to their website www.benvardinkennels.co.uk and their facebook page www.facebook.com/benvardinkennels.

The Kennels also use the services of an education officer, who is available free of charge to speak to school groups to highlight the importance of responsible pet ownership from a young age.
