Ballymoney singers are being encouraged to enter the 2016 Bangor International Choral Festival, which is this year being supported by George Best Belfast City Airport.

Now in its 23rd year, the festival will take place from 20th-23rd April at St. Comgall’s Parish Centre in Bangor and attracts attention from a broad spectrum of high-standard choirs from Northern Ireland, the UK, Europe and even as far as the Philippines.

The closing date for applicants is 6th February and categories include primary schools, secondary and grammar, special schools, gospel choirs, barbershop and folk groups.

Now in its seventh year, the airport Community Fund, which is helping to facilitate the secondary school competition category, has provided approximately £250,000 of financial support to over 100 local community projects and groups.

Stephen Patton, Human Resources Manager at Belfast City Airport, said: “The airport is pleased to offer support to the Bangor International Choral Festival as it gives us a unique opportunity to celebrate the arts community and promote their continued growth throughout Northern Ireland.

“Belfast City Airport’s Community Fund is committed to benefitting the lives of local people. We recognise the positive impact that music and the arts can have across generations, providing a common interest within communities which can be only encouraged by this wonderful celebration of musical prowess.”

Margaret McDowell, Festival Chairperson, said: “The support which George Best Belfast City Airport has given to the Bangor International Choral Festival has been fantastic.

“The competition is always a highlight of the Northern Ireland musical calendar and, yet again, we look forward to showcasing some wonderful international talent.

“I encourage all choirs, locally and afar, to enter before the deadline of 6th February.”
