North Antrim DUP MLA Mervyn Storey has meet with local taxi drivers to discuss their on going concerns regarding a number of issues that effect their industry.
Commenting ater the meeting Mervyn Storey said: “For sometime now I have been having ongoing discussions with local taxi operators. Listening to their concerns particularly since the introduction of the Taxi Act (NI) 2008 and the Taxi Operator Licensing on the 1 September 2012.
“I have been in correspondence with the Environment Minister Alex Attwood and tabled a number of question to the Minister in the Assembly.
“The ongoing concerns of local taxi operators are especially regarding the ongoing cost of these new regulations and the fact that there has only been a 75% if that, compliance rate from taxi operators across Northern Ireland to the introduction of the operators licence.
“Local operators are furious that while they have complied with the law there are still a large number of operators who have not even yet registered to have a operators licence but are still working on daily basis.
“I share many of their concerns and have planned to meet the Minister along with representatives from our local taxi operators.”
