McKee Collection of Staffordshires and fine furnishings

A most amazing private collection of Staffordshire Figurines is a major part of McAfee Auctions Fine Furnishing Sale, scheduled for the 23rd of November in their Ballymoney Sale Rooms.

The Staffordshires, collected over a thirty year period, by the late Miss Fiona McKee, represent a wide and varied selection of Staffordshires, from small single and pairs of Animals, pairs and singles of Figurines, Groups, etc.

It is a really amazing collection of the best of Staffordshires, and the sale offers a very varied selection of Staffordshire collected by a very avid collector, whose enthusiasm and passion is truly represented by the scale and range of this wonderful selection.

Staffordshire Figures were first produced as far back as 1740, and were commonly used as Mantelpiece Furniture, echoing the enthusiasm and taste of ordinary folk in a time when life was vibrant but in no way easy.

Figures were produced from original moulds using wet clay by a number of English ‘Staffordshire’ potters and were a type of folk art ‘of the people for the people’.

Today collectors are spoiled for choice, some focusing on a particular period, some on animals or particular animals, others portrait figures, royalty, theatrical or religious. Staffordshire also give the collector the choice of collecting large, medium, small or miniature figurines.

The McKee Collection offers a wide range, selection and variety of figurines of various sizes and themes, and not only includes the traditional Dogs, Lions, Whippets, Sheep, Cow Creamers, Hens on Nest etc. but a wider variety from Daniel O’Connell – Queen Alexandra, Irish National Forester C Napier, Duke of Cambridge, King William, Lord Raglan, Lord Byron to the rare Witch on Bird or Lion Slayer, Richard 111 and a large collection of various sizes of poodles and other smaller animals.

The sale scheduled for 22nd of November, also includes selected pieces of furniture, collectibles, including a collection of Fairings, Mary Gregory and Ruby Glass, Crystal, Silver and Jewellery.

Among the many pieces of furniture are two god dining room tables, chair sets, nice occasional tables and chairs, two bookcases, and oak hunting / wake table, couches, writing desks, a large electric organ, etc etc.

Almost 100 lots of nice jewellery including diamond and inset rings, large selection of gold bracelets, bangles and chains, watches, brooches etc and included a very good diamond cluster ladies gold ring, diamond approximately 1.5ct.

Viewing commences on Wednesday and Thursday 21st and 22nd November 3.00 – 5.00pm and 7.00 – 8.30pm and day of sale from 3.30pm.
