Firmus Energy host information session

Local natural gas provider, firmus energy, recently hosted an information session in Bushmills to allow businesses and elected representatives in the area to find out more about this alternative fuel source.

Following discussions with the Utility Regulator, firmus energy received approval in late 2012 to extend its natural gas network to Bushmills and to additional areas in Ballymena and Coleraine through a £3.5m investment programme. Work on extending the pipeline began last month and firmus energy hopes to have its first customer, Bushmills Distillery, connected in July this year.

Attendees at the breakfast briefing were updated on firmus energy’s progress in the area and how connecting to natural gas can help homes and businesses to reduce fuel costs, increase energy efficiency and improve environmental credentials.

Paul Stanfield, head of sales for firmus energy explained: “We would like to thank the local elected representatives, businesses and residents from the area that came along to express their interest in this major energy development for Bushmills. We are delighted to be able to offer an alternative way for locals to heat their homes and businesses. As firmus energy natural gas was recently recognised by the Utility Regulator as the cheapest in the UK, customers who connect will be able to enjoy significant financial savings compared to using oil or Economy 7 for example.

“As well as helping to reduce fuel bills, natural gas brings many other benefits to homes and businesses, such as up to 30% reduction in carbon emissions compared to oil. In addition, with the convenience of a constant supply of energy, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, there’s no need for storage facilities or the worry of ordering or running out of fuel.”

Once firmus energy has connected Bushmills Distillery, many existing homes and SMEs in the area will also be able to take advantage of natural gas which currently provides savings of around 31% against home heating oil1.

The company also thanked the local community for their understanding whilst they worked to extend the pipeline. Paul continued: “We appreciate the co-operation of local people during the necessary work and apologise for any inconvenience. firmus energy will continue to liaise with all the appropriate bodies, including DRD Road Service and the PSNI, to ensure that any impact is kept to a minimum and that all work is carried out as quickly and efficiently as possible.

“We are confident that Bushmills will benefit significantly over the long term from this investment.”

firmus energy already supplies natural gas to almost 50,000 homes and businesses in more than 20 towns and cities across Northern Ireland.
