‘Customers feel abandoned’ - McKay

Sinn Féin MLA Daithí McKay has said that Bank Of Ireland customers feel abandoned after it was announced that Kilrea and Ballymoney branches are to close.

He said: “These closures have come as a shock to customers in North Antrim particularly in the Bann Valley area where not one but two of their closest branches are being shut down. This now means that there is only one branch left in the entire North Antrim constituency.

“Rural communities need their local branches as much as people living in larger towns and from speaking to people it is quite clear that banks that locate themselves at an unreasonable distance will lose those customers.

“It is a great shame that there will soon be no branch in either Ballymoney or Moyle council areas. It is also a great shame that the bank did not consult on these proposals with customers that have been loyal for so many years.

“I will be making immediate representation to the bank and asking them to take these factors into consideration.”
