Managers and staff from the Accommodation, Activities, Hospitality, and Passenger Transport sectors have successfully completed the internationally recognised customer service training programme, World Host.
To help businesses gain the competitive edge at this time of opportunity for tourism in N Ireland the N Ireland Tourist Board has partnered with the sector skills council People 1st to provide World Host customer service training in N Ireland. Financial assistance is available from the Department of Employment and Learning for organisations in the private sector in the retail, hospitality, leisure, travel or passenger transport sectors with less than 250 employees.
The 2 day programme, which was endorsed by Ballymoney Borough Council was held in the Council Offices and was delivered by local World Host trainer Jean Haworth.
Delegates were from Knockavallen Lodge, Logan’s Executive Travel, Sizzling Sausage Diner, Glenlodge Guest House, Neelsgrove Farm B&B, United Bus Company, Susan F Hunter Design Studio, Jand K Coaches, Church View B & B, Roseneath Cottage B&B, The Chalet Self Catering and Flash In The Pan Fast Food. All of the businesses were eligible for funding support from the Department of Employment and Learning. £190 of Customer Service Training for just £20!
The delegates were presented with their certificates by Councillor Bill Kennedy, Chairman of the Development Committee, Ballymoney Borough Council at a reception held in the Council Offices.
Councillor Kennedy said (Ballymoney has often been known for its excellent customer service, and now this training course has developed these skills and formally recognised them. I would encourage other businesses within tourism and retail to take part in the next available course starting at the end of February.)
“The course was great for making me think about things I have never thought about – it opened my eyes” commented Gareth Cochrane, owner of Sizzling Sausage Diner.”
The training included a familiarisation tour of the local area including a stop at the Design Studios of one of the course delegates, Susan F Hunter, who gave a very interesting talk and pottery demonstration. Alice Christie from Roseneath Cottage B & B said “The familiarisation tour really reminded me how much there is for visitors to see and do in our own area.”
“As N Ireland continues to host a series of impressive events which will put us in the global spotlight, this was an excellent opportunity for the companies to develop their customer service skills and maximise business opportunities by competing at a world class customer service level” concluded Jean Haworth, World Host trainer.
