Community Groups from all over Moyle District got together at the McDonnell Trail at Magherahoney near Armoy to hear how battles fought long ago still have a bearing on our history and culture in this area.
The Community Groups from Ballycastle, Bushmills, Armoy and Ballintoy enjoyed a cross community event at Shean’s Horse Farm sponsored by the North East Peace 3 Partnership funded by the EU.
A great day was had by all the groups, in addition to hearing about the famous battle of Orra between the McDonnell and O’Neill Clans a wide variety of activities were tried with horse riding being the most popular.
Peat cutting, rope making and bridge building were available and the day was rounded off with a few good yarns from our own Glens story teller, none other than Liz Weir.
The new facilities at Shean’s Horse Farm have proved popular since the official opening several months ago.
The project has been hailed by both Ballymoney and Moyle Councils as a fine addition to the area’s tourist attractions and the councils plan to throw their weight behind future promotional material.
