Man admits having cannabis but denies being behind wheel

A Ballymoney man has admitted possessing cannabis but is denying he was driving a vehicle whilst unfit.

Jonathan William Neely (27) of Westgate, appeared at Coleraine Magistrates Court where his solicitor said the defendant was pleading guilty to possessing the Class B drug which was detected

on August 6.

Neely also faces alternative charges of driving whilst unfit though drink or drugs; driving with excess alcohol in his breath and being in charge of a vehicle with excess alcohol in his breath at Kinnyglass Road near Macosquin.

The defence solicitor said his client is denying he was the person at the wheel of the vehicle.

A police officer said she believed she could connect the accused to the charges and the case was adjourned to September 5 to fix a date for a contest.
