Driver was nearly four times over the legal alcohol limit

POLICE received a report of a car in a ditch on the Drones Road near Armoy and a man told officers: 'I'm guilty, guilty, guilty'.

John Alexander James Mitchell (53), of Capecastle Road near Ballycastle was detected at 12.10am on September 18 this year and had an alcohol/breath reading of 132/35 which was nearly four times the limit. The court heard the defendant lost control of the vehicle. He pleaded guilty to charge of driving with excess alcohol and absence of insurance, MOT and driving licence and was given a four months jail term, suspended for two years; was banned from the road for two years and fined a total of £300. District Judge Liam McNally said the driver had an “absolutely horrendous” alcohol reading and was a danger on the roads.
