Another tree has broken and fallen into the road at the renowned Dark Hedges beauty spot in Co Antrim.

It is believed it may have happened some time on Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning.

The stretch of the Bregagh Road near Ballymoney is popular with photographers, and has been used as a filming location in globally-successful TV show Game of Thrones.

It is comprised of roughly 90 beech trees, overh anging the road in a tight line, and dates back to the 1700s.

In January a number of them collapsed.

At the time, the head of the Woodland Trust in Northern Ireland had warned that more would likely follow, because the loss of one or more trees can affect the “balance” of the others.

Meanwhile, the Roads Service said on Wednesday that heavy rainfall had caused a landslide adjacent to the A2 Belfast Road at Whitehead point.

It said: “The original stone embankment has been undermined by rainwater and has partially failed.”
