LOCAL man, Willie Stewart, left his employment with Groundsman Industries in Ballymoney last week with the sort of work ethic few could match.
For in 16 years with the Ballybrakes company, Willie never missed a day that he hadn't already booked off and, just as importantly, was never a minute late.
It's the sort of approach to a job that makes employers thankful to have such a valued member of staff.
Sadly for Groundsman Industries Willie has called it a day and, in the words of his boss, Billy Warke, it's the end of an era.
"This the mark of a man who was as steady as a rock and as reliable," Mr. Warke told the Times.
To mark his retirement, Willie was presented with a specially-framed company shirt. It has an inscription, on brass, detailing the time he bean with the company - February 1993 to 2009.
"It's something he will look at and instantly recognise. It was signed by a specially marked pen by all his colleagues who have the utmost respect for Willie," Mr. Warke said.
Willie always ate an apple at 3 p.m. and, it seems, you could set your watch by him enjoying it and in recognition of that, staff bought him an Apple Tree.
"We put some thought into his gifts and tried to keep it secret from him," Mr. Warke added.
Willie, from Ballywindland Road, Macfin, formerly worked in Monsanto (33 years) and Montupet in Belfast.
He found the travelling a chore and was delighted when he secured employment with Groundsman Industries as Production Manager.
"The company was small when I joined but it has grown considerably since then I'm pleased to say," Willie told the Times.
He admits he will miss the company of his colleagues but can now practise his golf swing a bit more as well as his snooker. And he'll also spend more time travelling.
"I will definitely miss my friends, but I had to call it a day sometime," he added.
