SAFETY rangers patrolling areas like Cushendall could become a "target" for yobs, Sinn Fein councillor Padraig McShane fears.
He was speaking at a meeting of Moyle District Council where it was revealed safety rangers, similar to those used during the summer at Ballycastle seafront, may be appointed in the Glens.

The scheme, which sees the rangers equipped with mobile phones to report incidents to police if needs be, has worked well in Ballycastle.

Cllr McShane and Glens SDLP representative Orla Black said having Community Safety Rangers in the Glens is a good idea.

Cllr McShane added: “I would welcome anything but I would have a fair idea that safety rangers would be a target in Cushendall.”

Entertainment would also be provided as part of the ‘Brighter Nights’ project.
