THE police in H District, which includes Ballymena, Coleraine, Ballymoney, Moyle and Larne are urging parents to give more consideration to how and where they park when dropping children off at school in the morning and when collecting them when classes end in the afternoon.
Commenting on the matter, Constable John Jamieson, The Police Service Of Northern Ireland’s Road Policing Education Officer for the North East said: “Lets face it, we are talking about the safety of young children, and drivers need to realise that they are placing these young lives at risk by parking in prohibited areas on Zig-Zag yellow lines and in places were it causes an obstruction and makes crossing the road more hazardous than it should be.
“I want to see a marked improvement from drivers parking or stopping to drop children off at schools between now and the end of the school year, and if drivers don’t mend their ways then they should expect to receive a fixed penalty notice or face prosecution.
“It is not alright to park for a few minutes in a prohibited parking area or within 25 metres of a junction or to drop someone off. Find a safe place to park, even if it means having to walk a little further, and let’s all strive to make the roads at schools across H District safer for everyone.”
