GROUPS from Spain, Romania and the Netherlands came to the North Coast this week to learn how to boost their own rural tourism economy as part of the Roots Project.
They visited a number of very successful rural tourism businesses in the area, met local people who have developed their own agri-tourism enterprises as well as visiting the Causeway, Bushmills Distillery and Dunluce Castle.

In addition, a range of seminars were held at Castlereagh Enterprises Ltd in Belfast to work with B&B and guest house owners from across Northern Ireland.

Project co-ordinator Lydia Gamble of Castlereagh Enterprises said: “Northern Ireland is a beacon of success in this field. Farmers and rural landowners have been through tough times in past years but many have realised the potential development within the tourism sector.

“Over the years we have developed a high degree of expertise and we are sharing this knowledge with our European neighbour.”
