FOURTEEN young people from the Coleraine, Ballymoney and Moyle area are currently taking part in a Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) Cadet Firefighting Scheme.
The aim of the Scheme is to raise young people’s awareness of the work of NIFRS through an extensive programme of activities including operational Firefighting skills, First Aid and Fire Safety awareness.
The 13 boys and 1 girl involved in the Scheme meet on a Monday night from 7pm – 9.30pm and are trained by local Firefighters.
The Cadet Scheme recently held a parent’s information night in which the Cadets were able to showcase their new skills. The current Cadet Scheme started in September 2009 and will run for 3 years.
