THE Chair of Moyle District Policing Partnership, Cllr Orla Black, has condemned the hate crime attack on a restaurant in Bushmills.
In a statement, she said: "On behalf of Moyle DPP I would like to offer my full support to the victim, Michael Sotirov and his family. The attacks faced by Michael and his family since coming to this area are deplorable.

"Moyle DPP fully condemns this crime and any hate crime in the Moyle area.
"Only last week we held a themed public meeting on the issue of hate crime. It was unfortunate that more people were not present to see the devastating effects that such a crime can cause for the victims and their local communities.

"We saw at the meeting how it is important that the local community in which these type of events take place stand up and make themselves known to support those victims of such crime and condemn the behaviour of the perpetrators.

"Bushmills is a town close to the Giant's Causeway, Northern Ireland's number one tourist attraction. This is not the type of message we want to display to people visiting the Causeway Coast.

"Those responsible for this crime should not be allowed to get away with this. They do not represent the opinions of the people of Moyle.
"The people of Bushmills must rally together and support Michael and his family and ensure that this is the last crime of this type that we see in this area. They must encourage the Sotirov family to stay in the area and speak up to condemn this attack.

"I would especially ask those community activists who have any sort of influence to try their best to sort out this ongoing problem in the area."
Meanwhile, the man targeted, a Bulgarian businessman, is reportedly considering leaving Northern Ireland for good.

The fire has completely destroyed the ground floor of the building and there is smoke damage on the first floor and the building next door.
No-one was injured during the incident and police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

Earlier this year, arsonists set fire to two of Mr Sotirov's cars outside his home in Portballintrae while he and his wife and their two young children slept.

The incident followed a fire which caused extensive damage to the New Mill bar in April — which they also lease in Bushmills — and an attack on the bistro just before Christmas last year.

Mr. Sotirov says he and family are scared, but that he does not want to go back to Bulgaria.
A PSNI spokeswoman said police were treating the fire as arson have not ruled out a racist motive.
