JIM Allister says he is looking forward to hearing the verdict of the people of North Antrim on the "chuckle routine" at the next General Election.
The Traditional Unionist Voice leader is set to go toe-to-toe with his former DUP colleagues for their North Antrim seat at Westminster.
It is not yet known which candidate the DUP will put up though Ian Paisley snr indicated last week he may defend
the seat he has held for almost four decades.
It had been widely tipped his son, Ian jnr, would defend the seat for the DUP.
It is highly unlikely that Mr. Paisley Senior will seek re-election, but if he did, Mr Allister said: "It is clear that the DUP have been panicked by Traditional Unionists and that the party lacks confidence in Ian Paisley junior.
"I look forward to the verdict of the people of North Antrim on the chuckle routine and the record of their absentee Westminster representative".
Former DUP leader Mr Paisley told political journal, the House Magazine, that he is considering standing once more for Westminster.
In the publication, he said: "I think I would stand as an MP again. My wife is in the House of Lords, so I'll leave her to deal with the noble lordships."
Earlier this month Mr Allister said he was unsure about what his former party colleague was planning.
The 83-year-old said that Mr Allister was "very welcome to come and get a hiding in North Antrim".
However, a DUP spokesman said that no selection meeting had yet been held to decide who will stand for the party in North Antrim at the next election, which must be called within the next 12 months.
